Construction Updates

January 10, 2025- This week crews resumed work after the holidays and continued grading for new curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveways along the east side of 80^th Avenue between SE 27^th and SE 28^th Streets and were also able to pour concrete in some of those areas. The electrical subcontractor poured the final new light pole bases and a mounting pad for the new lighting control cabinet. Sidewalk areas were also poured this week at the nearby Sound Transit traffic signal improvement project at the SE 27^th Street and 80^th Avenue intersection. Next week crews will continue working between SE 27^th and SE 28^th Street.

December 12, 2024- Progress continued this week, with crews installing more Silva Cells along the east side of 80^th Avenue north of SE 28^th Street. These new cells will provide room for the roots of the new street trees to develop under the new sidewalk. Crews also poured more areas of new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Next week should see additional grading work for sidewalks in the SE 28^th Street intersection area and hopefully additional curb, gutter, sidewalk and ADA ramp pours, however the concrete work is weather dependent.

October 17, 2024- This week, City contractors poured sections of new sidewalk along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE at SE 32^nd Street. City contractors also patched back asphalt sections that had been removed to install the new curb and gutter. Next week, crews plan to continue pouring new sidewalk between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets; however, this work is weather dependent.

October 10, 2024- This week, City contractors poured sections of new sidewalk along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE at SE 32^nd Street. Next week, crews plan to continue pouring new sidewalks between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets; however, this work is weather dependent. Also next week, crews will be removing two street trees on the east side of 80^th Avenue SE just south of SE 28^th Street.

October 4, 2024- This week, City contractors poured additional new curb and gutter along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE at SE 32^nd Street. They also continued with installing electrical conduit for the new illumination system and also started grading for new sidewalks. Later next week, crews hope to begin pouring new sidewalk between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets.

September 26, 2024- This week, the City’s contractor, Always Active Services, placed crushed rock and graded for curb, gutter and sidewalk along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE at SE 32^nd Street. They also continued excavation and installation of new electrical conduit for the new illumination system and their subcontractor, Custom Concrete, began pouring new curb and gutter. Next week, crews will continue with grading, conduit installation and curb and gutter between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets.

September 19, 2024- This week, the City’s contractor, Always Active Services, removed asphalt along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE at SE 32^nd Street. They also started excavation and installation of new electrical conduit for the new illumination system. Next week, crews will continue removals and conduit installation between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets. They will also begin placing crushed rock and grading for new curb, gutter and sidewalk.

September 12, 2024 - This week, the City’s contractor, Always Active Services, started removing the old concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE, between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets. Next week, crews will continue removals and start underground utility work for the new street lighting between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets. Following the utility work new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk will be poured.

September 6, 2024 - This week, the City’s contractor, Always Active Services, removed trees along the east side of 80^th Avenue SE, between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets due to large root masses that are heaving the existing sidewalk. The trees being removed will be replaced with new trees this fall/winter after the construction of the new sidewalk is completed. Next week, crews will begin sidewalk removals and underground utility work for the new street lighting between SE 30^th and SE 32^nd Streets.
