July 3, 2018 - Since 2004, the City has conducted abiennial citizen surveyto track customer satisfaction with City services, to identify citizen priorities, and to gather input on significant community issues.
The 2018 survey was conducted this April/May by mail to randomly selected households with a goal of 400 responses in order to achieve robust statistical significance. In total, 711 surveys were completed, leading to a margin of error of just 3.7%. A summary was recently presented to the City Council, including some very positive highlights listed below:
95% of the residents surveyed indicated they were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with Mercer Island as a place to live - this figure is 25% higher than the national average.
94% of those surveyed indicated they were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with the overall feeling of safety in the City - also 25% higher than the national average.
The survey found that 79% of residents are satisfied with the overall quality of City services (only 5% are dissatisfied). Compared to other cities, Mercer Island rates 36% above the Northwest regional average, 32% above the average for similarly sized communities, and 30% above the U.S. average in the overall quality of services provided by the City.
Staff are developing plans to address underperforming areas.
