Mercer Island’s Parks & Recreation Department is committed to enhancing community livability by offering a wide array of 26 parks, trails, sports courts, ballfields, beaches, and open-space facilities throughout the island. The crown jewel is the Mercer Island Community & Event Center (MICEC), a 42,755 sq ft venue featuring meeting rooms, a full-size gymnasium, multi-purpose and dance rooms, panoramic lake and mountain views, and a professional catering kitchen.
Key community offerings include:
Playgrounds, picnic shelters, and beach access, including Luther Burbank Park which offers trails, boat dock, fishing pier, swim beach, sports courts, and off‑leash dog areas.
Trails and open space, totaling around 475 acres, accessible from 6 AM to 10 PM for walks, biking, frisbee, and family outings.
Recreation programs and events for all ages—from youth camps and arts to senior social services—hosted at MICEC.
A Parks & Recreation Commission, appointed to advise the city on planning, programming, and funding for parks and facilities.
