Middle Housing Types and Accessory Dwelling Units on Mercer Island - Info Session, Mercer Island Library, 6:00pm
The City of Mercer Island will hold an information session about new housing types that are now permitted under newly enacted city regulations on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Mercer Island Library. Presented by Alison Van Gorp, City of Mercer Island Deputy Director of Community Planning & Development. Refreshments will be served, and registration is not required.
In 2023, the Washington State Legislature adopted legislation intended to increase housing options and create less expensive housing. These new laws require many Washington cities, including Mercer Island, to allow new types of Middle Housing and to expand allowances for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in residential zones. The City adopted regulations to comply with these requirements, effective June 30, 2025.
