On February 2, the Parks & Recreation Commission (PRC) received the final draft of the conceptual design for a new Bike Skills Area (BSA) at Deane's Children's Park. The discussion begins at approximately 53:00. The PRC voted to recommend the 30% design to the City Council (3-2, 2 absences). Staff will transmit the PRC's recommendation to the Council on Tuesday, March 7.

At its regular meeting on March 2, the Parks & Recreation Commission added an agenda item at the beginning of the meeting to clarify the products being taken to the City Council on March 7. The discussion begins at approximately 2:12. The PRC ended up providing additional support for the west entrance proposed in the design. This additional support was added to the City Council packet materials.

On March 7, Mercer Island City Council unanimously approved the 30% design for a new Bike Skills Area at Deane's Children's Park. Over the next several weeks, the City will continue to engage park neighbors, bikers and biking advocates, and other groups to refine elements of the design. The City anticipates constructing this facility later in 2023.
