Illuminate MI

Help us Illuminate Mercer Island!

The City needs YOUR help to light the trees in the medians on 78th Ave SE between the Outdoor Sculpture Gallery and Mercerdale Park.

While the volunteer event, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 14, has been canceled, the City is still looking for sponsors and donors to help cover the purchase of lights and other items. If you or your organization is interested, please call 206-275-7626 or email miparks@mercerisland.gov.

We know this year has been tough on all of us, but you can help us bring some holiday cheer to Town Center by displaying holiday lights at your own business! Contact Small Business Liaison Sarah Bluvas (free lights are available while supplies last) for more information.

City crews were looking forward to working with all of the sponsors, donors, and volunteers to Illuminate Mercer Island this holiday season and were just as disappointed to learn that, due to the surge in COVID cases, the volunteer event was canceled to help keep volunteers and City crews safe and healthy.

We are pleased, however, to share that the City has revised installation plans to ensure IlluMInate MI will still happen! Keep an eye out for an IlluMInated Town Center soon. In the meantime...

    Let's keep the momentum going!

Many Mercer Island businesses, community organizations, and residents came together to generously pledge funds to ensure Illuminate MI’s success.

    THANK YOU!

Thank you for making the Mercer Island better during a challenging time for many in our community. It is amazing how rapidly our community sprung in to action to see this through. Your City staff are proud to be a part of this project and are in awe of the support.

If you pledged a donation or would like to make a donation, the Mercer Island Community Fund will be processing donations for Illuminate MI.

This allows for donors to give to a recognized non-profit (501-c3) in support of this installation. This also allows donation overages beyond the cost of the event to remain with the Community Fund for future community support initiatives, in contrast to being deposited within the City’s general fund.

    How to Donate

  • Event Canceled Due to COVID-19 Surge

    13 Nov 2020

Given the surge in COVID-19 cases across the Puget Sound region, the City made the difficult decision to cancel the IlluMInate MI volunteer event scheduled for Saturday, November 14.

Although strong safety protocols were in place, the City has determined that there is no way to conduct the volunteer event while isolating participants by household. We have revised installation plans to ensure IlluMInate MI will still happen! City crews will perform the installation following all COVID safety protocols and guidelines. Keep an eye out for an IlluMInated Town Center soon and thanks for your support!
