Construction Update for August 21

Good news! The new playground at Roanoke Park is almost ready to open! Here's a look at work that has been completed over the last few weeks.

  • Completed drainage: R&R Construction finished adjusting the catch basin and swale as well as installed the parking area trench drain. The trench drain was set with concrete in early August, and the swale will be planted with a mix of grass and other vegetation by this fall.
  • Finished installing the new picnic tables and bench: The new furnishings include an ADA-compliant picnic table that is fully accessible from the new ADA parking stall.
  • Installed topsoil, compost, woodchips, and temporary irrigation: Revegetation of the site will happen in two stages. R&R Construction will hydroseed the lawn and hillside areas, which will be watered with temporary irrigation. In the fall, the City's parks team will install a permanent irrigation system and plant more plantings around the picnic pad and in the drainage swale.
  • Completed concrete work: On Wednesday, the crew poured the new sidewalk and ADA parking stall, which now provide a fully accessible route from the parking area to the playground and picnic area.
  • Restored the gravel parking area: One gravel parking stall will be available for non-ADA parking at the playground.

Lawn and hill areas will be restored with hydroseed this week, then R&R Construction will clean up the site and begin demobilizing. Additionally, the City's ROW team will stripe/mark the ADA parking stall and install signage, and the Parks team will install playground rules signage and trash receptacles.

Next Monday, City staff, the consultant team, and the contractor will conduct the punchlist walkthrough and identify any needs to address before opening the playground. Barring any major issues during the walkthrough, staff anticipate the playground will open in time for Labor Day weekend. Stay tuned!
