Construction Update for June 26

Roanoke Park continued to be busy the last three weeks of construction activity to replace aging play equipment and enhance accessibility at the play area. A crew from Robertson Recreational Surfaces began installing the new poured-in-place (PIP) accessible surfacing, and Swanson Brothers Concrete returned to form the picnic patio, ADA parking stall, and parking-area curbing. Additionally, Alloy Arts, the City's contract public art conservator, restored Totem by Bernard Hosey, which is installed in the park at the corner of West Mercer Way and 70th Ave SE.

Here's a look at what to expect over the next few weeks as the crews work to finish this project:

  • Finishing the PIP surfacing - A support post for the slide attached to the Neptun Climber was not delivered with the rest of the equipment, which the crew learned when they installed the structure earlier this month. The post should be delivered and installed soon, then the remaining sections of PIP will be installed.
  • Pouring the remaining concrete elements - The picnic pad, ADA parking stall, and parking curb will be completed in the coming weeks.
  • Install furnishings - Signage, picnic tables, a bench, and a trash receptacle will be added near the end of construction.
  • Restore vegetation - Lawn areas that were disturbed during construction will be restored with grass. Other vegetation, such as shrubs and new trees, will be planted later by the City's Parks team.
