Updates for October 2024

Permitting is nearing completion for the Roanoke Park Playground Replacement, and staff are working with Berger and Allplay Systems to execute a contract with R&R Construction to construct the project.

This playground renovation includes new poured-in-place playground surfacing, which will provide full access to play and gathering opportunities for people with mobility challenges. Installation of the surfacing requires warm weather. (Community members probably remember waiting for a good weather window to install playground surfacing at Mercerdale Park in 2022!) Rather than chance the weather this fall, construction will start in early 2025 and will be sequenced with construction of the First Hill Park playground replacement. A construction timeline will be shared on Let’s Talk once it’s been confirmed.

Staff anticipate opening both new playgrounds in spring 2025. The playground at Roanoke Park will remain open until construction begins.

Before the new playground opens, other related site improvements will be completed and include installing a new park sign, building a new perimeter fence, and restoring the public art sculpture Totem. A section of the new fence was installed as an Eagle Scout project this summer, and City crews will finish the fence over time.
