Some Good News
almost 4 years agoHas a neighbor helped you during these past few months of social distancing? Have you seen someone go above-and-beyond for another member of the Mercer Island community? Do you want to recognize a group for something special they've done to make this time of isolation a little less isolating? We want to hear about it!
We could all use a little good news these days. Take a few seconds to share your good news stories or thank a neighbor today!
You can also send your good news stories and notes of thanks to citymanager@mercergov.org and staff will post for you.

Thanks to the MIHS Marching Band, the Mercer Island Food Pantry received a needed and much-appreciated boost in funds! Every spring, the MIHS Marching Band hosts a food drive to help fill MI Food Pantry shelves. In the past, the students have collected nearly 7 tons of food. This annual food drive helps get the Food Pantry through the traditionally lean summer months. This year, due to the pandemic, the Food Pantry had to change the way it operates for safety purposes, and transitioned from food donations to grocery gift cards. Even with this change, Marching Band students didn't miss a beat. They redirected their annual food drive to a fundraising campaign and raised almost $3,000 in donations. The Food Pantry has seen a 50% increase in requests for food assistance since the beginning of the pandemic. Thank you MIHS Marching Band for generously helping the community!

In response to the sanitizer shortage, 2Bar distillery in SODO changed operations to making hand sanitizer. 2Bar generously donated 100 – 4oz bottles of hand sanitizer. Thank you!

This Mercer Island *angel* has been organizing neighbors to donate food every week to first responders at Harborview to ensure they are well nourished during these most trying times. She even provides containers and tin foil, picks up the food from you, and does the deliveries! What an inspiration - we're so lucky to have someone like Joanna in our midst.
